  • NetHogs  (sudo apt-get install nethogs)
  • Run with sudo nethogs <interface> (interface can be eth0, wlan0, etc.), and observe it for a while:

  • Then use htop (install if necessary) to "graphically" kill the process. You will probably get better results by telling us which process it is and then disabling it, instead of swatting it like a fly every time it pops up ;)

I like to seed the current Ubuntu image on my computer, but remembering to start transmission every time I log in is a hassle. Here's how to start transmission automatically every time you log in to your user account on Ubuntu 12.04 (or other Ubuntu versions).

Open your Startup Applications window:


Click the add button:


Fill in the following:

You can change the name and comment to your liking. The -m in the command means transmission will start minimized, remove it if you want it to start visible.

Click the add button and you'll get the nice transmission indicator in the notification toolbar next time you restart.
